Counseling for Children and Teens
Parenting can be a challenge, not only because there’s no one-size-fits-all parenting plan, but because children and teens are tough, too. Children often don’t understand how to express strong emotions and act out. At first, you may think a child who is easily frustrated or gets angry is just being difficult. In fact, your child may be struggling with fear, sadness, anxiety or depression and is simple unable to express those feelings adequately. Counseling in a safe, nonjudgmental setting can help your child learn to better express his or her emotions. Children are often resistant to help from a parent because, to them, your efforts feel like criticism. Working with an experienced professional who can provide them with the tools to navigate this challenging time in their lives can help them feel better and create a more peaceful and fulfilling family life.
Like children, teens are also experiencing big changes, not only physically and emotionally, but socially, as well. Add in the academic pressures presented by today competitive society, as well as their changing relationship with you and they can easily feel overwhelmed. As they try and find their way, teens can become surly and withdrawn, making impulsive choices that often lead to some pretty negative consequences. All of this can leave you feeling helpless as a parent. Counseling is way for teens to sort through everything their experiencing and come to a better understanding of themselves, as well as their place in the world. What that means for you is an overall improvement in family relationships, better communication and a more open, fulfilling connection with your teenager.
